Exposing Archaeology

Jennifer Baird (Birkbeck) will give a seminar organised by the Institute's History of Archaeology Research Network at the UCL Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology on 6 March.

Dr Baird's seminar is entitled 'Exposing Archaeology: Time, Beauty, and the Role of Photographs in Archaeological Knowledge' and all are welcome.

Abstract

Despite critiques of visualisation in archaeology in recent years, within Classical archaeology, photography is deployed and understood as an applied technology for documentation. Drawing on early twentieth century archaeological expeditions in the Middle East, this seminar will explore the relationship between the creation of archaeological knowledge and photographic practice.

Due to limited seating at the Petrie Museum, please contact Amara Thornton if you would like to attend.
