The Institute of Archaeology currently has a vacancy for an SEM Technician (Ref.:1420846). The deadline for applications is 7 July 2014.
The Wolfson Archaeological Science Laboratories at the Institute of Archaeology are a major analytical research facility within UCL and have helped the Institute to establish itself as a world-leader in the field of archaeological materials characterisation and interpretation.
The post of SEM Technician is soon to fall vacant, due to retirement, and a full-time Technician in Scanning Electron Microscopy and X-Ray Microanalysis is sought to maintain and further develop the Institute's reputation and competence in the study of ancient materials.
The technician will supervise and maintain the SEM suite and provide high quality support for research and teaching in the examination and analysis of a wide range of materials, mainly from archaeological contexts. The position is crucial to the research and teaching functions of the Wolfson Archaeological Science Laboratories.
The successful candidate will have extensive experience in the operation of electron microscopes. The candidate will have previously held a technical position in a laboratory or may have recently completed significant analytical research into inorganic materials.
A BSc in a scientific discipline or the ability to demonstrate extensive experience in a similar role to the present post is essential.
