A life remembered: John D. Evans
7 September 2012

Institute staff will contribute to a special event reflecting on the life of the prehistorian, and former Institute Director, John D. Evans at the Society of Antiquaries on 14 September.
One of the great archaeologists of the late 20th century, John Davies Evans, FSA who also served as the Society of Antiquaries’ President from 1984-87, left behind a significant legacy.
The memorial seminar will include addresses by Judith Conway, David Harris (FSA), Martin Millett (FSA), Pamela Jane Smith (FSA), David Trump (FSA), Ken Wardle (FSA) and John Wilkes (FSA) who will consider the many facets of John’s personal history, including his work in Greece and Malta, his role as a teacher and mentor, his family life, and his leadership roles at the Institute of Archaeology and the Society of Antiquaries itself.
The event will be accompanied by a display of material from Evans’ unpublished archive, as well as provide an opportunity for attendees to reflect on their own memories of John.
There is no admission fee for the seminar and the event is open to all Fellows and interested members of the public. The latter should contact Dr Sara Perry to reserve a seat.
