Friends, colleagues and students are invited to view archaeological material from the Anglo-Saxon cemetery site of Selmeston in East Sussex at the Institute on 13 February.
Sue Harrington and Hazel Welch will be laying out and checking the artefactual and paper archive from the 1979 excavation of the cemetery at Selmeston in East Sussex in Room 410 from 3-4pm. The material includes the original site drawings, X-rays, field notes and also ironwork including spears and shield bosses, beads and buckles.
All those with an interest in the Anglo-Saxons are invited to come along and see the material - it is very much as excavated or conserved at the time and will present a series of challenges and tasks to bring it to publication.

The excavator, the late Martin Welch, was a Senior Lecturer in Medieval Archaeology at the Institute and had hoped to bring the archive to publication on his retirement, a task now left to friends, colleagues and hopefully current Institute students.
All are welcome. Any enquiries about the project may be directed to Sue Harrington.
