Matt Pope on 'The Tribes of Science'

4 August 2011

Rescuing hunter gatherer archaeology at Les Landes

Matt Pope was interviewed recently to discuss what makes archaeologists tick for a new BBC Radio 4 programme on 'The Tribes of Science' being broadcast today.

In the first instalment of this new series, archaeologists are put under the microscope. Do the scientists who discover and interpret lives in the distant past have a distinctive culture and mind set of their own?

In order to explore this question, journalists visited Matt and his colleagues excavating Jersey's Ice Age past as part of the Quaternary Environments and Archaeology of Jersey Project which itself forms part of the Leverhulme-funded Ancient Human Occupation of Britain (AHOB) project and has been developed in close partnership with Société Jersiaise and Jersey Heritage.
