The Department of Anthropology is one of the largest in the UK with 30 academic staff including 11 professors.

The Department of Anthropology was given the highest rating of 5* for the quality of its research by a recent (2001) survey of all British Universities.

The Department of Anthropology was rated Excellent for the quality of its teaching by a recent government assessment of British Universities.

The Department of Anthropology offers an exceptionally wide range of optional courses, has a relatively low staff-student ratio and emphasises tutorial or smallgroup teaching in courses at all levels.
