Funding Opportunities
The MRes in Anthropology has since inception been recognised by the ESRC as a research training Masters programme for funding purposes. However, since 2011, new arrangements for MPhil/PhD funding via UCL's ESRC Doctoral training Centre mean that research council funding is no longer available for the Masters year.
The MRes degree is normally followed by MPhil registration and then upgrading to a PhD. Since 2011 ESRC funding has become even more intensely competitive, and students who have completed both undergraduate and MRes/ Masters degrees with excellent results are those most likely to win PhD funding.
Students who have not yet completed an ESRC Research Recognised masters programme, but who intend to apply to the ESRC for a PhD studentship are advised to consult the research council information at:
