Prof Victor Bulmer-Thomas, Honorary Professor (UCL - Institute of the Americas) is giving three
lectures to coincide with the publication of his book The Economic History of
the Caribbean since the Napoleonic Wars. The third talk explores the economic
development of the Caribbean from 1960 to the present. This period was marked
by the rise of service exports in all countries and it brought with it a rapid
rise in GDP per head in most countries. However, the model entered a period of
crisis after 2000 and the lecture will also consider which alternatives are
most viable.

UCL - Institute of the Americas would like to invite members of the public to join experts to discuss post-conflict justice and accountability in relation
to violence against women in Peru, Colombia, Afghanistan and the Pacific. Such
a comparison raises questions around, for example, international intervention,
the nature and practice of transitional justice, institutional reform, judicial
capacity and political will, and gender ideology.
Talk and Acoustic Performance by Cuban/British collaboration X Planet

X Planet is the collaboration of Holly Holden (London) and Alayo
Style (Santiago de Cuba). This project, born in Santiago de Cuba in June 2011,
draws on a multitude of musical influences from the Caribbean and beyond.
Spanish and English fuse in a reflection of the experience of human existence
and the celebration of the shared joys of love, life and freedom. Having
launched their debut album in Cuba in June 2012, X Planet are now ready to
share their music with the world.
