Two new state-of-the-art virtual servers environments have been built in UCL and our users will be able to request shared areas/folders, accessible from anywhere. Each shared area will get 200GB of space for work-related use.
All data is backed up to industry best practice standards (90 days), and should one data centre encounter any issues, the other will seamlessly take over.
This shared data storage facility is not recommended for the purpose of storing identifiable data.
We will be moving our existing users to the new data storage service a group at a time, as part of the AISC Sync & Share Project. Existing shared data & folders will be migrated simultaneously.
New users, without any previous data to migrate, may be eligible to go straight on to the new service. If you would like to enquire about this, please contact us.
Research groups requiring large quotas of space for storing research data can request space on the new servers, instead of traditionally buying physical servers. This new service will enable data storage to be available much quicker than purchasing and setting up separate physical hardware. Also, the competitive price per GB is much lower.
