UCL & I.B. Tauris Publishing Competition

IBTauris Prize Logo

A unique training and publishing opportunity for suitable PhD students is offered by UCL and I B Tauris in partnership.

Students with an approved PhD dissertation in the Arts and Humanities, Social and Historical Sciences and the Bartlett School of Architecture at UCL are invited to compete for the chance to work with the Visual Culture and Philosophy editor at I B Tauris on presenting their work for publication in book form.

The competition is open primarily to students working in the general areas of Visual Culture and Philosophy.

However these areas will be interpreted broadly, and priority will be given to dissertations which present a novel approach to the disciplines and their relation to others.

The aim of the scheme is to provide students with experience of working with a commercial publisher with a wide academic as well as general readership. Final decision on publication of work will rest with the editorial board of I B Tauris.

Departments or Schools are invited to select one dissertation each that has been recommended for the PhD in the twelve months up to the closing date in each year.

In the case of a School, more than one dissertation may be considered by agreement with the panel. In addition to the dissertation, applications should consist of a brief statement giving reasons why the dissertation would be suitable for publication with I B Tauris, and a brief CV.

The panel will consist of Timothy Mathews, UCL SELCS (chair), Ms Liza Thompson, I B Tauris, and three other members drawn from across the Faculties.

Submissions should be sent to:

Prof Timothy Mathews

Department of French

School of European Languages Cultures and Society

The closing date for 14 June 2013.

It is planned to inform the successful applicant in September 2013.
