Creative Thesis: Exploring the Parameters of the PhD Thesis
26 September 2012
The Slade School of Fine Art is running a programme of bi-weekly workshops and seminars to investigate the parameters of the doctoral thesis as a Creative Thesis, in order to explain issues of research practises and methodology. The Creative Thesis series will run from October 2012 to June 2013, as a series of bi-weekly workshops.
Guest writers, artists, curators and publishers, in addition to faculty from Slade and UCL, are invited to run the Creative Thesis sessions, opening up different possibilities of research methodology, experimenting with modes of writing and the relations between the visual and the verbal.
- Dr. Raimundus Malsaukas from Lithuania will be talking about his experience of Documenta 13, Kassel.
- Dr. Hayley Newman (Slade School), Artist, performer and author of the novella Common, will run a session on the parameters of a practice-based PhD research thesis.
- Dr. Sharon Morris, (Slade School) author of poetry collections False Spring and Gospel Oak, and papers on the philosopher C.S. Peirce, will run a writing workshop on writing an abstract and structuring an argument.
- Artist and writer Yve Lomax (Royal College of Art and Goldsmiths Art Writing programme), author of ‘Writing the Image and Sounding the Event’, and publisher Copy Press, will focus on writing practice as philosophy.
The series will also explore modes of creative writing that address critical writing through self-reflexive practice, dove-tailing with the new Humanities PhD mode of thesis, Creative Critical Writing.
The course is welcome to any student who is interested in the issues raised by the propositions of the Creative Thesis. For more details visit the course page, or contact Dr Hayley Newman to reserve a place.
