The seminar series draws inspiration from Jeremy Bentham’s notion of the Panopticon and places concepts such as “trauma” or “memory” or “crime” in a central “inspection house” in order to view them from different disciplinary perspectives across the arts and sciences. This year’s seminar series springs from the four SELCS Research Themes – Visual Culture, Trauma, the Book, and Memory – which are designed to bring colleagues together across departments and disciplines, break moulds, get ideas sparking and encourage innovative grant proposals.
