The Centre for Intercultural Studies and the Centre for European Studies have launched a new PhD devoted to the study of literary procedures in developing arguments and ideas.

Providing an opportunity to develop research ideas in a variety of forms without being restricted to conventional academic prose, the PhD in Creative Critical Writing gives students the opportunity to put into practice the interplay of form and content which is often the object of their study. Critical practices which are encouraged include the essay, the dialogue, biography, travel writing, the self-reflexive diary and the critical journal, and translation, amongst others. The PhD allows students to investigate practically, as well as analytically, the discursive forms in which the material they study is produced.

The course appeals to students seeking academic careers, and producing research aimed at an academic audience but not restricted to it. Students considering careers in the media will also benefit from producing PhD material accessible to a diverse audience.

Applications will be considered from September 2012. Applications from current pre-upgrade Arts and Humanities students to transfer to this pathway may be considered by their supervisors with immediate effect.
