The Exhibition

It brings together celebrated international artists from the Slade School of Fine Art alumni and teaching staff with current PhD candidates and invited guest artists for a collaborative research period culminating in a public exhibition at the Slade Research Centre. The exhibition will culminate in a conference in which the process will be contextualised through dialogue with senior psychoanalysts.

The Conference

Psychoanalysis and Artistic Process

Reflecting the spirit of collaborative research, an associated conference is being held at UCL. It aims to catalyse dialogue between artists and psychoanalysts by presenting public one-to-one exchanges between three pairs of artists and psychoanalysts.

Each participant will make a short presentation, the artist focusing on his/her process, the psychoanalyst raising ideas for debate relevant to psychoanalysis and artistic process.
Following this there will be an extended discussion during which the speakers will respond to each other’s presentations and then open it up to the floor. The day will end with a tour of the exhibition.

Speakers:

  • Grayson Perry, Martin Creed, Sharon Kivland (Artists)
  • Valerie Sinason, Kenneth Wright, Lesley Caldwell (Psychoanalysts)

The conference will be held on Saturday 25th February 2012, 9am to 5pm

Venue: Cruciform Lecture Theatre 1, Gower Street, London WC1E 6BT

The conference is free to attend but booking is essential.
