Heritage Values in Contemporary Society
The key to balancing archaeology with economic development is balancing heritage values with the needs and concerns of contemporary society. This allows heritage values to compete with other agendas in a market driven world while at the same time allowing different ways of viewing the past to coexist.
This requires applying multiple approaches including but not limited to legal, ethical, economic, management, and scientific perspectives in meeting cultural heritage concerns in a manner that is accountable, sustainable, and includes the ethical responsibility to interact, consult, and work with those who have a stake in the resource under consideration in an effort to help advance local economic conditions while at the same time not compromising the quality of life for future generations.
