Duties and Responsibilities
UCL Advances, the centre for entrepreneurship at UCL, was launched in 2007. It has grown to be one of the largest and most dynamic of such centres in UK higher education.

The Deputy Director will be responsible for many of the operational aspects of Advances, specifically the successful delivery of projects and activities, management of project-related staff, performance to budget, generating new projects.The Deputy Director will also be responsible for the day-to-day coordination with internal stakeholder groups including UCL faculties, departments and staff and external groups. The role will therefore have a significant external-facing component. Through effective leadership of the team, the Deputy Director will play a key role in the implementation and monitoring of UCL’s Enterprise strategy in the areas of entrepreneurship, business support, training, engagement and company creation.

Key Requirements

The Deputy Director will have the ability to simultaneously think strategically and operationally with respect to how UCL Advances and UCL develop programmes that promote entrepreneurship in a differentiated manner relative to other leading universities around the world and in the UK. The successful candidate will have significant entrepreneurial initiative and flair, as well as creativity in developing new value-creating relationships with UCL Advances’ stakeholders (i.e. entrepreneurs, academics, and investors). They will be responsible for the majority of Advances’ day-to-day activities including the provision of a range of high quality business out-reach and engagement activities, small company training and business support activities, contributions to Advances public policy activities, the design and development of a wide range of non-degree educational workshops, operational responsibility for much of UCL Advance’s budget planning, implementing operating budget and motivating and directing the team.
