Tim is the Executive Director of UCL Advances and holds strategic and operational responsibility for its activities.
He joined UCL Advances in August 2007 from the for-profit sector where he spent the previous six years running his own business, which helped universities and large corporations to spin-out high technology companies. His clients included UCL, Birkbeck College, University of Surrey, the London Development Agency, the Centre for Scientific Enterprise Limited (CSEL), the BBC and Reuters. Projects ranged from developing a software company with target clients in financial services to researching the market for spin-out managers. Previously, Tim worked as an investment manager at a pan-European investment firm that specialised in early-stage technology ventures. While there, Tim was involved in a web service development tools company in Paris and a pan-European business services company, among other ventures. He also initiated the firm's university liaison programme, which included members from the UK, France, Sweden, Germany and the Netherlands.
A graduate of UCL, Tim began his professional life as a business consultant with a big-five firm in London. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, a member of the Association of European Technology Transfer Professionals (ASTP), Vice-President of the Friends' of UCL Trust (http://www.ucl.ac.uk/futures/friends_trust) and a member of the International Advisory Boards for Flywheel Ventures, an early-stage US venture capital company (http://www.flywheelventures.com/), and Venture Cup Denmark, a national programme that seeks to unearth Danish university entrepreneurs (http://www.venturecup.dk/).
