As a researcher and entrepreneur, Alastair supports start-up activity and SME engagement across UCL with a particular focus on mobile and digital enterprise. Alastair is currently project lead on UCL DECIDE and designed and delivered pilot versions of The Mobile Academy – a joint programme delivered with Mobile Monday London that has helped take participants to Mobile World Congress and LeWeb. He is an honorary researcher at UCL Enterprise with a particular interest in optimisation, vision, machine learning and mobile, and has published and presented work at top-tier international conferences (eg. CVPR and ICCV).
Alastair has helped raise in excess of £2M funding for current projects and has been an advisor/mentor to several companies that have raised seed round funding in both the UK and the US. (eg. Tipgain.com, Nearnote.co.uk, Ephemeral Labs Ltd.). During his doctorate he was a research engineer at Sharp Laboratories Europe, he has also consulted on transnational European projects, and has studied at the London School of Economics and the London Business School.
Alastair is co-founder and board member of several companies including Ephemeral Labs Ltd., Amaams LLP and UCL spinout Satalia Inc. He sits on the Special Group for Entrepreneurship for the British Computer Society and is a mentor at the Wayra Academy and Springboard Mobile.
