Research Interests
General Relativity and Gravitation

Dr Böhmer's research interests cover many areas of gravitation and cosmology. Gravitation, Einstein's general theory of relativity, is a beautiful theory where differential geometry lays the foundations to formulate the theory of gravity. It is the interplay of geometry on the one hand and matter on the other hand which makes general relativity unique. Recently, Dr Böhmer has studied f(R) modified gravity theories in an astrophysical context. With his colleagues he could show that dark matter may be interpreted as a purely geometric effect and could also present a model to tackle the Pioneer anomaly. Moreover, he has worked on the effects of Loop Quantum Gravity on the Schwarzschild interior spacetime. Dr Böhmer is especially interested to apply mathematically rigorous results to questions in theoretical astrophysics. He constructed new global solutions of the static and spherically symmetric field equations in the presence of the cosmological constant. In the field of cosmology Dr Böhmer is interested in dynamical dark energy models. In many cases these models can be analysed by using techniques from dynamical systems. He recently got interested in models of anisotropic inflation and the possible imprint of such an anisotropy on the cosmic microwave background radiation. Other interests include the mathematical foundations of general relativity and quantum theory,
Kaluza-Klein theories and non-standard spinors.
