The Geomaths MathHelp material
Please note the Geomaths MathHelp material pages are not being
maintained.
The Geomaths Quiz is also no longer accessible.
This is part of the IMAGE project, a joint
Geological Sciences/
Mathematics/
HERDU project funded by
the HEFCE as part of the Fund for the Development of Teaching and Learning
(FDTL) program.
The aim is to provide students with mathematics self-study material which
is embedded within the context of the students' own discipline, namely Geological
Sciences.
The material consists of many MathHelp "notebooks" covering specific
mathematical topics, accessed through a relevant geological context. The
notebooks contain explanations, illustrations, examples and practice
quizzes.
Currently "revision" and "1st level" modules are available, corresponding
roughly to pre-A level and A-level standard respectively.
The "2nd-level" material is currently
being developed, for students of
Geological Sciences who have A level Mathematics or equivalent.
A mathematical "glossary" is also constantly available, providing a brief
explanation of mathematical keywords and links to the relevant notebook.
The standard entry point to the system for students of Geological Sciences
is the Geomath Front Page.
An alternative entry point for access to the mathematics material without the
geological contexts is the MathHelp Home Page.
The following map gives an overview of the system.
