The UCL Main Library is situated in the Wilkins Building. The Wilkins Building is a Grade 1 Listed Building and forms one of the major statements of the architectural output of William Wilkins (1778-1839), who also designed the National Gallery in Trafalgar Square and Downing College in Cambridge.
Advancing London's Global University - the Campaign for UCL, UCL's fundraising campaign, has as one of its primary objectives an ambitious plan to refurbish the whole of the Wilkins Building.s library spaces as spaces in which to offer 21st century library and information services. UCL has already begun to support this exciting vision by undertaking two major phases of this work, and is thus starting to implement the vision set out in the Master Plan.
In addition to these major projects, UCL Library Services is committed to implement a rolling refurbishment programme and to clean the entire bookstock in the UCL Main Library by 2010.
