Our collection consists of around 3,000 books, all of which can be found using Explore. Library staff are always available if you need help with this. Most books can be borrowed for one week, though books which are in high demand may have some overnight loan or reference copies. Dictionaries, directories and other such items are kept in a reference collection. You can renew your books online or by calling us on 020 89095351.
The Library holds around 66 current print journal titles and various older titles, totalling around 5,000 volumes. Journals are arranged alphabetically by title. Journal records are being updated on the online catalogue, but a paper list of our holdings is also available in the Library.
Access to Electronic Journals and Databases
UCL staff and students can access UCL's electronic resources via the UCL Library Services Homepage. NHS staff can access NHS resources on the www.evidence.nhs.uk, though you must first obtain an NHS Athens account. You can self-register for an Athens account on the NHS Evidence website if you are using a NHS networked computer (if not, just visit the library and we will help you). NHS staff and visitors can also access UCL's electronic journals and databases via dedicated Explore Access Point computers in the library.
For RNOH Staff
There is a black and white photocopy machine available for use in the Library. RNOH staff can request a photocopy card from the information desk for work-related photocopying. For personal use or external courses, copies are made through the use of a card £1 (15 copies) £5 (75 copies) and £15 (230 copies) or (7p per page) cards are available from library staff.
For UCL students & staff
The library is part of the Print@UCL service where students and staff need to register at first time with their UCL username and password.
There are various computers available in both the general study area and the computer resource room, and printing can be done from all except the Explore Access Point terminal. Those in the study area are:
Three Explore Access Point computers (for all users)
Six Desktop@UCL computers (for UCL students & staff)
Five hospital trust computers (for RNOH staff)
The resource room is open for general use except when a training course is in session.
Nine Desktop@UCL & hospital trust computers (for UCL students, staff and RNOH staff)
Study Skills Training
Library staff are always available to help you with any aspect of using the library, including library catalogues and electronic resources. If you would like further training, you are welcome to book an individual training session with us. These sessions are particularly useful for learning how to make better use of databases. To book, please ask at the issue desk or telephone us on 020 89095351 or email us firstname.lastname@example.org.
Inter Library Loans
The Institute of Orthopaedics Library deals with interlibrary loan request. UCL staff, students and NHS staff can fill an online Interlibrary loan form when they need to borrow books and journal articles which are not available at the UCL Institute of orthopaedics library.
