Who are we?
The Friends of the Petrie Museum is a membership organisation formed in 1988 to raise funds towards the conservation,
publication and display of the collection of the Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology. Our nominated person for data collection is
How do we collect information from you?
We obtain information about you when you complete a membership form or apply to attend an event, or contact us via our website.
Becoming a member entitles you to receipt of information from us which you will continue to receive by mail. Event application
information offers the option for postal or email confirmation. Your express consent has been requested to continue receiving group emails from us.
What type of information is collected from you?
The personal information we collect might include your name, address, email address, telephone number as supplied on the membership form.
If you pay your membership, make a donation or purchase a product from us, your card information is not held by us, but is collected by our
third party payment processors — currently Paypal UK, who specialise in the secure online capture and processing of credit/debit card transactions.
We record your requests for information and any feedback we receive from you. We use Google Analytics to record traffic to the Friends website
but we do not record IP addresses or any other information.
How is your information used?
We may use your information to:
- promote the Friends of the Petrie Museum
- carry out our obligations arising from your membership benefits
- process membership payments and donations that you have made
- process orders and event bookings that you have submitted
- deal with entries in a competition
- seek your views or comments on the services we provide
- send you third-party communications which may be of interest to you
- process grant applications
- emails are sent either from the Secretary for direct individual communication, or via Mailchimp for group emails.
We will hold your personal information on our systems for as long as is necessary for the relevant activity, or as long as your
membership remains valid. When you cease to become a member your basic contact details are retained as part of our archive records
unless you request their deletion.
Who has access to your information?
We will not give, sell or rent your information to third parties. We will not share your information with third parties for marketing purposes.
Your information is securely stored and is available only to the Committee of the Friends of the Petrie Museum.
The data controller is the Secretary.
Third Party Service Providers working on our behalf: We may pass your information to our third party service providers,
to process donations and send you mailings as detailed above.
We take appropriate measures to ensure that the information disclosed to us is kept secure, accurate and up to date and kept only for
so long as is necessary for the purposes for which it is used. However, you should be aware that the use of the Internet is not entirely secure
and although we will do our best to protect your personal data we cannot guarantee the security or integrity of any personal information
which is transferred from you or to you via the Internet. Any transmission is at your own risk. Once we have received your information,
we will use strict procedures and security features such as encryption to try to prevent unauthorised access.
How you can access and update your information
The accuracy of your information is important to us. We are working on ways to make it easier for you to review and correct the information
that we hold about you. In the meantime, if you change email address, or any of the other information we hold is inaccurate or out of date,
please email us at: email@example.com. You have the right to ask for a copy of the information we hold about you.

We are concerned to protect the privacy of children aged 16 or under. If you are aged 16 or under, please get your parent/guardian's permission
beforehand whenever you provide us with personal information.
Transferring your information outside of Europe
As part of your membership, the information which you provide to us may be transferred to countries outside the European Union (“EU”).
By way of example, this may happen if any of our third-party service providers are located in a country outside the EU. Third-party service
providers have their own clear privacy policies.
