Professor
Tim Atkinson (Professor of Environmental Geochemistry,
Director of the Groundwater Tracing Unit, Director
of the Bloomsbury Environmental Isotope Facility)
Professor Atkinson
is a geologist with wide research interests in the
earth and environmental sciences, centring around
the applications of chemistry and physics to problems
in hydrology, hydrogeology, Quaternary geology and
palaeoclimate, and geomorphology. His hydrogeological
interests include natural and artificial tracers
and their uses in environmental protection and aquifer
characterisation.

Dr
Willy Burgess (Senior Lecturer in Hydrogeology,
Director of the Graduate
Diploma in Hydrogeology & Groundwater Resources)
Dr Burgess joined UCL in 1990 having previously worked
at the British Geological Survey and in consultancy,
with experience in groundwater resource assessment
and contaminant hydrogeology. His research concentrates
on interactions between groundwater flow, transport
processes and geochemical reactions which control
groundwater quality, in particular on establishing
field relationships to constrain conceptual models,
mostly in contaminant hydrogeology

Dr
Richard Taylor (Lecturer in Physical Geography)
Dr Taylor took up his
current post in the Department of Geography at UCL
in 2000 following post-doctoral studies funded by
NERC (UK) and NSERC (Canada) at the Robens Centre
of Public and Environmental Health (Surrey) and with
Professor John Barker at UCL. This was preceded by
doctoral study in hydrogeology at the University of
Toronto and several years of consultancy work in tropical
Africa (e.g., DANIDA, World Bank, EU). His research
interests include the hydrogeology of weathered crystalline
rock aquifers, transport of sewage-derived, microbial
pathogens by groundwater, and impact of climate change
on water resources.

Mr Tony Osborne (Groundwater
Tracing Unit and Wolfson
laboratory technician)
Tony set up the GTU with professor
Atkinson and Dr Yuan Zhao of UCL's Chemistry department.
As well as maintaining equipment
in both the GTU and Wolfson laboratories he is also the departmental
Radiation Safety Officer.
