New Book on John Stuart Mill's Utilitarianism by Huei-chun Su
We are delighted to announce the publication of a new book by Huei-chun Su, Honorary Research Fellow at the Bentham Project, entitled Economic Justice: The social philosophy in John Stuart Mill’s Utilitarianism. The book is published in Routledge’s Studies in the History of Economics series.
Dr Su’s book begins with an account of Mill’s moral philosophy that reconciles his idea of justice with both his utilitarianism and his theory of liberty. She goes on to compare Mill’s theory of justice with those of John Rawls, Amartya Sen, and Friedrich von Hayek, and hence constructs an effective response to the criticisms levelled at utilitarian theories since the publication of Rawls’s Theory of Justice in 1971. The book will be of interest to those with an interest in utilitarian studies, Mill studies, moral philosophy, economic philosophy, the history of economic thought, and intellectual history.
