From 1994-1999, held this post on a job-sharing basis with Gillian Martin and topped up with such things as working in the College Library as a staff and user trainer in IT, providing occasional external consultancy (clients have included the International Fund for Agricultural Development [UN] and the European Training Foundation [EC] amongst other commercial and educational organisations), running training courses for Aslib and others, and doing contract research on topics such as the job market in ARM, the suitability of automation training in LIS, and ICT training needs analysis for public library staff. In 1998-9 also taught an undergraduate module in Systems Analysis at City University School of Informatics one day a week, and since 1999 have been a visiting lecturer at the University of Malta, teaching a double module in Automation and Information Management to Dip.ARM, Dip.LIS and B.LIAS students in the School of Library, Information and Archive studies on a biennial basis. Transferred to the Heathrow Express Rail Link project to manage documentation and rationalise computer systems. Responsible for the drawing registry, project documentation and archives, site computer systems and quality systems. Designed and specified a local area network for the project's computer systems, standardised and computerised various site systems and procedures, and prepared the project quality system manual.

Responsible for the provision of library/information and related services for all companies of the Taylor Woodrow Group and publicity/marketing support for Taywood Engineering. Created and managed the Taywood Information Centre providing library, enquiry/research, on-line, current awareness, publication purchase/distribution and other services. Established the Taywood Information Service, a fee-based information brokerage/service for external clients. Managed computer graphics section, providing presentation graphics and illustration services, and marketing & media section providing desk top publishing and exhibition support. Designed, implemented and managed departmental computer network comprising library management systems and other functions. Member of Group Task Force on archives and records management; set up archival/records function for head office. Provided consultancy services for other Taylor Woodrow Group companies on information technology and records management systems. Internal quality assurance auditor for Taywood Engineering. Designed and implemented BS5750 (ISO9001) quality assurance scheme for the Taywood Information Centre, the first such independent accreditation for an information service in the UK.

Responsible for library/information services in all offices of the Europe-Africa region. In charge of Technical Reference Library housing loan and reference collections of various materials including project documentation. Database Administrator for E-A Map and Report databases, and responsible for maintenance and development of E-A library/
information systems. Designed, programmed and implemented microcomputer-based journal control system. Assisted in running data storage & filing systems.
Librarian, Phillips Petroleum Co. UK Ltd., Victoria SW1 (Jan 1981 - Apr 1983).
Set up and managed new library/information function, and was responsible for developing the provision of library/information services to the company's UK operations staff.

Library Micromation News (later Library Technology News, then Library Technology, then LTWorld) 1981- 2000
Founded the magazine in 1981 to provide a vehicle for the communication of ideas and experiences of those working with microcomputers in libraries. In 1983 gained funding and support from the (then) Information Technology Centre at PCL. Continued as Editor until 1985, when sold copyright to the British Library, and as Associate Editor until its transfer to LTWorld.
Frequent lecturer on aspects of quality systems and on automation. Designed and taught courses on quality assurance for Aslib, the Portuguese Library Association and the Department of Employment, and Internet courses for UN IFAD, Aslib, the European CEV Summer School, Berkshire Library & Information Project, the London School of Printing, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, the College of Optometrists, Nokia Communications and others.
